If a WhatsApp link doesn't open
What to check when a Send or Tell button doesn't open WhatsApp, opens the wrong chat, or opens with no words in it.
Every Send, Tell and Send invite button is a link that opens WhatsApp, or Messages, on the phone you're holding, with the person and the words filled in. Nothing is sent until you press send.
It opens a WhatsApp web page instead of the app
WhatsApp isn't installed on this phone, or the phone opened the link in a browser. Install WhatsApp, or switch that person to Messages on Crew (or the whole company in Settings, Company). See WhatsApp or Messages.
On a computer, the link opens WhatsApp Desktop if you have it, or WhatsApp Web. Sending from your phone is usually easier.
"Phone number shared via url is invalid"
WhatsApp couldn't find that number. It's wrong, missing its area code, or the person isn't on WhatsApp.
- Someone from Jobber: fix their mobile number in Jobber, then tap Sync the team on Crew.
- Someone added by hand: change the number under their name on Crew and tap Save number.
- Not on WhatsApp: switch them to Messages on Crew.
There's no button for someone
They have no phone number. Crew shows "No phone number" under their name. Add one, as above.
It opens, but the box is empty
Some texting apps on Android ignore the words in a link. Switch to WhatsApp, or use another texting app. On an iPhone, Messages fills them in.
Tell the crew opens the wrong chat
Tell the crew doesn't pick a chat for you, so nothing goes to the wrong people. WhatsApp asks where to send it: pick your crew's group.
The invite opens, but signing in doesn't work
Some apps open links inside themselves, and Google sign-in won't work there. Tap Email me a code instead, or open the link in Safari or Chrome. See Sign in.
Still stuck? Talk to a person.
